Pain is a subjective, unpleasant sensory and emotional experience linked to actual or potential tissue damage, often serving as the body's warning system. It is a personal experience influenced by biological, psychological, environment, and social factors, ranging from sharp, localized sensations to chronic, debilitating conditions. Each person feels pain differently, even if the pain has the same reason. Pain may be sharp or dull. It may be mild or severe. Pain may come and go, or it may be constant. You may feel pain in one location of your body, such as your head, back, neck, knee, abdomen, chest, or pelvis, or you may feel it all over.
What is pain medicine?
Pain medicine, also know as pain management, is a disciplinary of medicine specialize in evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating patients suffering from acute or chronic pain. It uses a multidisciplinary approach, including medications, procedures, and physical/psychological therapies, to relieve pain and improve functional quality of life.
Cancer Pain:
Cancer pain results from tumors pressing on nerves and/or organs, or results from treatments like surgery and chemotherapy. Peripheral nephropathy is an example of cancer pain. It ranges from chronic aching to acute pain, often managed with medications (NSAIDs, opioids), nerve blocks, radiation, or physical therapy in conventional pain medicine.
Pain Management Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and evidence-based complementary therapy for managing chronic and acute pain. Acupuncture can be use to manage back pain, migraines, osteoarthritis, and more. By inserting fine needles into specific body points, it stimulates nerves and releases natural endorphins to reduce pain. Results are generally long-lasting.
